For honing peened scythe blades. This stone has a slightly less coarse grain than the Bergamasca, but it is also less hard and sharpens faster. Beginners who have not yet mastered peening will often achieve better results with this stone than with a fine-grained stone such as the Rozsutec.

Natural whetstones are carried on the belt in a water-filled whetstone holder for frequent maintenance of the edge during mowing. Adding a small dash of vinegar, as was done in the past in certain regions, increases the bite of most natural whetstones and helps keep them clean and functional.
