A small, dedicated family business

Advice, courses, and scythe and other hand tool sales since 2010

For many years before launching this activity, we were already trying to move towards greater food autonomy, simple technologies, a lighter ecological footprint, independence from large multinationals, etc. For about twenty years, Peter honed his mowing and peening skills by mowing a lot at home and at his former job for the maintenance of green spaces, through books and some fortunate exchanges with elders, and thanks to Peter Vido's writings. Not only pleasant to use, but also very efficient, this simple, low impact tool fit perfectly with our values and in 2010 we decided to help introduce it to others. Since then, Peter has taught several hundred people, but also municipal workers, self-employed workers who maintain green spaces and gardens, and, since 2021, other scything teachers.

The manufacture of a quality scythe is a highly skilled job that's been carried out in specialized workshops and factories for centuries by master scythesmiths. We work with renowned European manufacturers in Italy and Austria who perpetuate this tradition. For the accessories and other tools we sell, we also work with European manufacturers who produce quality tools with good value for money.

We do not and will never work with giant e-commerce distributors who create unfair competition or exploit their employees... We work from our home, quite simply, as a small family business on a human scale. It therefore goes without saying that we take our time to guide our customers in choosing their tools. We want to offer you not only quality tools at an affordable price, but also quality service, so that you get the tools best suited to your situation.

And, always in line with reducing our ecological footprint, we fill our packages with packing material recuperated from local businesses who need to dispose of this material. In the same spirit, we limit our car trips by grouping together parcel shipments and other obligations as much as possible.

You can always count on our availability, our expertise and our personalized advice, and on the respect of these values, which take precedence over profitability.

We look forward to hearing from you,

Peter & Christina De Schepper

For various internal reasons at Falci, the quality of their blades has recently declined significantly, to the point that in 2024 we had to return several models of blades we had ordered, which is why we no longer offer certain models (or certain lengths of certain models) in our shop.

There has been a deterioration in several blade characteristics, which has a negative impact on their ease of use and their effectiveness.

We hope that Falci will once again be able to produce blades of the excellent quality we have known. We're keeping in touch with them regarding this issue and are closely monitoring the situation.

In the meantime, rest assured, we continue to sell only Falci blades of good, very good, or excellent quality, from previous production runs.

Mowing grasses and other soft vegetation requires proper maintenance of the blade, which includes peening the edge with an appropriate hammer and peening anvil, and whetting it with a natural whetstone. The whetstone is carried in a whetstone holder on the belt, immersed in water with a bit of vinegar. Adding a small drizzle of vinegar increases the stone's bite and helps keep it clean and functional.

Peening draws out the steel to ensure the correct thinness and geometry of the edge. This operation is done on average after every four hours of mowing, but this time span varies depending on the vegetation, the conditions, the whetstone used, and the mower's technique.

Then, in the meadow, the edge is honed with a whetstone every few minutes, as soon as a little more resistance is felt and/or if the scythe cuts the grass less well.

Frequent peening and honing are essential for proper blade performance!
