Hosting a scything course in Belgium, France or Luxembourg

Participation fee is usually around €70 per person/day (possible supplement for meals and/or snacks). In order to optimize learning and ensure everyone's safety, the courses are limited to 8 participants. The host takes care of registrations and removal of grass at the end of the day if necessary and, in return, participates for free. I bring all the necessary equipment and I peen the scythe blades that will be used in the course in advance so participants can experience working with a tool that cuts really well. The course can take place over one or two days. The second day allows participants to improve their skills at mowing, and especially peening, which usually requires more practice than mowing itself, yet is essential for the proper functioning of the blade.

Approximately 25 ares of well-maintained meadow are needed per day of training. By a well-maintained meadow, we mean a field that is mown every year and where the grass was short at the start of winter. A poorly maintained field with brambles, nettles, etc., or a field trampled by animals can be mown with a scythe but is not at all suitable for teaching the course.

The teachers I've trained are located in various regions and willing to teach scything workshops in Belgium, France, and Luxembourg. We'll try to direct you to a teacher according to your region.
